[Current Music |This is Halloween - Marilyn Manson]

Name: Mellie

A little horror history: To tell you the truth I used to be a big wuss - I had nightmares and night terrors for years over Jurassic Park - dont ask. But, when I was around 10, I sat down with my mom and watched The Excorsist and although its not the scariest movie I've ever seen, something about it gave me the creeps and I found myself loving that feeling - that eery feeling... its weird and twisted, but I just loved it. And from that point on I've been obsessed with all things horror, halloween, etc. I work during the Halloween Season as a 'Zombie' for Six Flags' Fright Fest, and thats something that really fuels my love for Halloween and Horror.

Favorite Scary Movie(s): Hmmm... this is a tough one. I'm really in love with old-school horror, much as I love gore and ripping people to pieces with dull knifes, I like movies like, The Shining, The Omen, Pet Semetary, Carrie, Jaws, Halloween, but, I'd be lieing if I didnt say I enjoyed things like, Saw and Hostel

Favorite Scary Story/Novel(s): Dont really have any, but, I'd be a complete liar if I didnt say that I was (and still kinda am) obsessed with R.L. Stines' Goosebumps

Favorite Horror-related Television Shows: Ghost Whisperer, Ghost Hunters, Room 401, and all the Supernatural/Paranormal shows on the Discovery Channel.

Phobias (what makes you scream): Being confined in a tight space and strapped down - its one of my biggest fears, and probably my ONLY fear, is to wake up strapped to a chair some place in a dark dank room unable to move *shivers*

(Optional) Something Scary (picture, story, rumor, etc.): hmmmm... well, not sure - lets see. When I was camping a few years ago my friends and I were joking around about The Blair Witch Project and what a horrible movie it was - and about Sasqwatch and all those MYTHS you hear when you camp. So, after we had our fun and giggles we all fell asleep. A few hours later a friend and I had to use the bathroom so we walked down the way a bit to the restrooms and we could have sworn we saw two people a guy and a girl standing off in the distance, so we called to her - and she didnt turn around - so we walked closer and all of a sudden this "girl" walks off into the bushes more, so, of course, we follow her - and we get to this group of trees and see her running through them and off further - we freaked a bit at how off it seemed so we went back to our tent. The next day we talked to one of the old timer park rangers and he said, 'you kids be careful - lots of weird things happened up here in the 60's so we asked him about it, and he said a group of kids around our age had been camping around where we were camped, and one by one they started disapeering and were found a few days later murdered, the last two of the five that had been there - a boy and a girl, were never found... and some people who camp there never come back because they say they "see them" at night.... I dont know whether to believe it or not- I'll admit I was a bit spooked that next night, but, eh... *shrugs*

A little horror history: I've been a fan of horror movies, the paranormal, and pretty much anything else horror since I was a small child. I probably get this from my mom because she's the same as me, though I think my love for the horror things is a little bigger. I remember seeing The Evil Dead when I was about 4 or 5 for the first time and even though it scared me a bit I couldn't stop watching it because I loved that thrill.
Favorite Scary Movie(s): Oh man, that's a toughy. That's like asking if I could live without my brain or heart, but I'll definitely try to make the list small. The Evil Dead, House of Wax (Remake), House of 1000 Corpses, Dead Silence, Wolf Creek, Carrie, Thirteen Ghosts, The Skeleton Key, Rose Red, Session 9, Saw 2, The Blair Witch Project 1 & 2, Pet Semetary, and Final Destination 3.
Favorite Scary Story/Novel(s): Don't have any, though I won't lie and say that I'm still not a fan of R.L. Stine's books. I'm a sucker for Goosebumps and Fear Street.
Favorite Horror-related Television Shows: Supernatural and the haunted shows on The Travel Channel.
Phobias (what makes you scream): Clowns, spiders, heights, and small spaces.
(Optional) Something Scary (picture, story, rumor, etc.): I have to agree with corn_field and say Zelda. Pennywise, the clown from IT, scares me to death so I'll throw him in there too.

Paranormal experiences [Sep. 25th, 2007|11:06 am]

[Current Music |Trapped - Bruce Springsteen]

My first one happened when I was a child (I must have been around 10 or 11). We were living in a small city in a 3 storey building that dates back to at least 1860 - the first floor was my mom's graphic design business, the 2nd floor we kept things like the piano, washer and dryer, workshop, etc and we lived on the 3rd floor. One day I was home alone; I was sitting on the floor in the living room and from where I sat, I could see into the hallway a little. I was watching TV when I caught a clear sight of a shadow moving across the wall in the hallway. It was the height of a full grown man and the way the shadow was formed, it looked like it could have been the shadow of a man wearing a long cloak and a top hat. Considering the fact we lived on the 3rd floor, the only way the shadow could have been cast from outside is if someone had been walking outside the window...in thin air.

Another time - around the same age, living in the same place - I was home along again, this time at night, and I heard a groan come from my brother's room. The door was closed and I never got the nerve to open it - instead I turned on every single light in the house and stayed in the living room lol That building has never once made any "settling noises" and the plumbing and everything has always been silent and the sound I heard from my brother's room sounded like a person's voice...

These days I'm living in a 2 floor townhouse with my boyfriend and our 6 year old son and since we've been living here I've heard a voice come from my son's room at least 2 or 3 times now. Every single time has been during the day when 1. I'm alone and 2. all the children on our street are at school. The first time I was standing in the bathroom; my son's room is right next to it at an angle (I can see into his room from the bathroom doorway) and both doors were open. I heard a child's voice come from his room, loud and clear, though for some reason I couldn't catch what he/she said. Outside was totally silent, the windows were closed (the only noise we ever hear through the walls is when one of our neighbors runs up their stairs) and Johnny's radio and TV were turned off. I shrugged it off but I've heard the same child's voice from his room at least twice since then.

I wouldn't think much of this as it's happened so few times in the 3 years we've lived here except for the fact that a number of times now, I've found the TV in Johnny's room on when I know for a fact it was turned off before going downstairs to get him ready for school. That could be passed off for something faulty in the wiring or the TV...except for the way it happens. The TV is plugged into an outlet that is controlled by a light switch. To turn the TV off I would typically just flick the switch down into the 'off' position and each time I went upstairs and found the TV on again, the switch was flicked back up into the 'on' position. Each time this event occurred I was home alone and for some reason would only happen if I've left the house (it would be off when I left and on when I returned - even if it was just to step outside for 5 minutes).

Well this community is pure awesomeness, so allow me to fill out the little survey thingie!

Name: Michelle

A little horror history: Well, what can I say other than that I’ve ALWAYS been drawn to horror, scary things, the paranormal, and so on and so forth. I have a lot of great memories of watching and reading all my favorite scary stuff, alone or with family members. I just love anything and everything to do with the topics.

Favorite Scary Movie(s): There are lots of good ones, but my all-time favorite is The Ring.

Favorite Scary Story/Novel(s): The Goosebumps series, read nearly all of them as a kid. Stephen King of COURSE, particularly Pet Sematary and The Shining. I love the 3 "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" books by Alvin Schwartz (with crazy illustrations by Stephen Gammell)--collections of short tales that were terrific for school Halloween parties or campfires.

Favorite Horror-related Television Shows: For years I’ve been obsessed with Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction? and I own the series on DVD. I also own Are You Afraid of the Dark?, one of my favorite shows ever. Then there’s Tales from the Crypt and Tales from the Darkside, both very good. Also A Haunting & Ghost Hunters. There really are so many but those have to be my top picks.

Phobias (what makes you scream): Clowns (yeah, me too); needles (gross me out…I was the worst kid for getting shots); public speaking & crazy drivers. XD Thanks partly to the above-listed books, shows, and films--and also just naturally--loads of other things can give me the creeps, but more in a good sort of way; anything from scarecrows to indoor pools to long winding deserted country roads at night! ^~

(Optional) Something Scary (picture, story, rumor, etc.): Hmm, how about a fun little banner of pics from those Scary Stories books I mentioned?Collapse )
